Just so everyone is aware, Promotions from AC to LAC will be taking place next Monday, so bring your camera. Promotions are an excellent time to see all the hard work and dedication that you have all put into the squadron. So you are all aware, the requirements to get promoted to LAC (Leading Air Cadet) are as follows:
- Actively participate in the proficiency level one of the LHQ training program for a period of six months.
Promotions to higher ranks however are based on more than just time in the squadron. You need to have a good team spirit, work well with others, be respectful and polite to not only your peers, or people with higher ranks, but also to Cadets with lower ranks. If someone asks you do to something and they don't explain their reasoning, just because you do not understand why (or like the task), there is probably a good reason for it, and if you do it right away, we do notice it, and it really helps to get that promotion. In order to be a leader, you need to know how to follow, and if you are always arguing, you can't get far. I know everyone is capable of doing great, let's see the effort! :)
On a lighter completely unrelated note: In the past, our squadron had a Holiday Dinner. This dinner would be for all the parents and cadets to come out and just share a meal together and just relax and a big 'family'. This is something that would be excellent for our squadron to continue, and with support from everyone, I hope this to be possible. Please if anyone has any advice or wishes to help organize this activity, please e-mail me at kelanpc@live.ca or contact me on my cell at 798-5989, I might not answer my phone right away, but please feel free to leave me a message and I will get back to you ASAP.
Remember, it's crunch time, we need to pull it together for Annual. Let's make it the best year possible!

In regards to the Christmas Dinner. We have tried several different formats and none of them were particularily successful. One year we did a potluck, and only a handful of people were prepared to pay for, or donate, or prepare, or even, bring food. Unfortunately the few that did volunteer were also the same parents who ended up serving, clearing up, and washing/drying the dishes. Another year we had it catered and that was very expensive for what we got. There was also the year we had the legion ladies prepare and serve. Unfortunately we no longer have that association and even that cost several hundred dollars. I would rather see the money spent on a ski trip or similiar activity. The overnight ski trip the squadron went on a couple of years ago was a huge success and the cadets had a blast. I feel, from experience that any moneys that the sqaudron is prepared to spend on a Christmas dinner would be better spent elsewhere.
