summer dress

Hey, WO2 Shane here,

Just wanted to remind everyone that we are now going with summer dress. For those of you who don't know what that is, I will explain. Neatly ironed blue shirt with name tag centered over the right pocket and shoulder flashes, (if you have them), blue pants, belt, polished boots and wedge. For those of us who have ribbons they should be centered above the left pocket. I noticed this past Monday there were several senior cadets who did not have their shoulder flashes or ribbons on their shirts. Remember, you should always be prepared.

We are also going to start checking for the grey wool socks that you should have received with your uniform. If for some reason, (allergies etc), you cannot wear wool, we will accept black cotton socks that show above the tops of your boots.

Also, WO2 Poten-Coyle wrote about promotion criteria. While he is somewhat correct, there are many other considerations. Attendance is a very important factor, not just on Monday parade nights, but also for mandatory activities such as Rememberance Day ceremonies, or Fam Flying. Participation in voluntary activities is also very important. These would include, survival excercises, tours, Winnipeg Airport Authority events, etc. Most of these events and activities are also educational and lots of fun. They teach comradeship, citizenship, and leadership.

Dress and deportment is also critical. We notice when you don't wear your uniform regularily, or it is not ironed properly, or missing parts. It is also important that all badges be neatly sewn on in their proper places, and all pins, (name tags, ribbons, medals) be positioned correctly. Remember to stand up straight with head held high in pride. Also remember that at breaktime or when you are eating to remove your wedge.

Some other things you should remember are, that you never run on the parade square, that you must always greet officers by their rank followed by their surname, or "sir, or "ma'am", and ALWAYS stand at attention and salute them, and that you must always salute the flags as you walk past them. When greeting senior cadets use their rank followed by their surnamed
