Cadets Required as Escorts for the Battle of Britain Parade this Sunday
In the summer of 1940, during World War II, 2,936 pilots took part in an historic battle against the German Luftwaffe that was to become the only battle to be fought entirely in the air; this battle has become known as the Battle of Britain. Nearly 500 pilots and aircrew from Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Belgium and the United States lost their lives before eventually turning back their adversaries. The British Prime Minister Winston Churchill memorably said: "Never... was so much owed by so many to so few."
To commemorate the Battle of Britain, 17 Wing Winnipeg will host a parade on Sunday, 15 September 2013 at 1000 hrs in the Garden of Memories.
Specific Details
Date: Sunday, 15 Sep 13
Location: 17 Wing, 1 Canadian Air Division - Garden of Memories - Air Force Way
Time: 0930 hrs for a pre-ceremony briefing (parade starts at 1000 hrs)
Orders of Dress: Cadets: C1 (no white belts, gloves or lanyards)
CF Pers - 1A
Local Winnipeg Air Cadet Squadrons have been requested to provide a minimum of 20 cadets (total) to attend the parade to act as escorts for those who are laying wreaths.
NOTE: I just talked to RCSU and they are still short at least 8 Air Cadets. Please attend this significant RCAF Parade and help escort veterans etc. as they lay wreaths in Remembrance of those who fought and died during the Battle of Britain! You will not be required to "stand on parade" (you'll be an escort) but you will require a complete, and well turned out uniform (neat, well pressed, extra shiny boots etc.)
