Cadet Personal Kit List
Spring Field Training Exercise (FTX)
Due
to the nature of unpredictable weather in Manitoba; there are certain items the
Cadets are required to include
in their kit for our outdoor FTX Fri June 6-Sun June 8.
Cadet
kit should be packed by the cadet under adult supervision to ensure kit meets
specifications.
Cadets will undergo a kit inspection prior to departure for
the FTX. Should the cadets arrive with inappropriate kit; they will not be
permitted to attend the exercise for health and safety reasons.
Cadet
Personal Kit will include the following items:
Clothing:
(The reason for bringing extra clothing is for layering and in
case what is worn is ruined by weather)
- Moisture-wicking, hooded jacket
– appropriate for outdoor wet weather
- 2 Pairs of pants i.e. sweats, athletic
pants, or cargo pants – not
permitted: yoga pants, tights, jeans or capris as the materials are
not conducive for a Field Training Exercise
- 3 t-shirts (no sleeveless shirts)
- 2 long-sleeve shirts
- 1 sweatshirt/hoody
- 5 pairs of non-cotton socks (socks need to be changed
often)
- Undergarments (x 3 days)
- Sleepwear;
- Gloves/mitts & toque
(Manitoba weather is unpredictable). Baseball cap or tillie hat (Tillie can
be ordered through supply)
- 2
pairs of footwear (runners, hikers or rubber boots) footwear w ankle
support is best.
not permitted: sandals, “fashion boots” such as UGHS, Cadet Parade Boots - Combat clothing for cadets is
permitted provided it is complete and worn to standard
Toiletries:

Toothbrush and toothpaste;
·
Towel and face cloth;
·
soap;
·
medication;
·
hairbrush/comb;
·
deodorant;
Other:
- Water Bottle
- Flashlight
- Notebook and Pen/Pencil
- Bag for outgoing laundry
- Pillow
- Teddy Bear (optional)
- Tent
- Sleeping Bag (appropriate for
weather)
*Tents and sleeping bags will be provided but for personal purposes; you may wish to use your own sleeping bag. (please notify FTX staff if you are planning to bring your own tent)
IMPORTANT NOTES:

To
eliminate any issues with storage of valuables, or security problems, it is
recommended that cadets do not bring electronic devices, jewellery, or other
“attractive items” to the FTX. Staff are not responsible for lost or stolen
items.

Phones will be provided to the cadets upon their request.
·
Unless authorized by the CO or Trg O, utility
tools, camping knives, and blades will not be necessary.
FOOD:
Personnel will be fed 3 meals a day plus snacks.
As we are in the open on a FTX and open food
can attract wild animals; for the safety of all concerned, personnel will not be permitted to possess any food in their tents.
All food items for the FTX will be stored in
the cook shed under standard safety conditions.
Cadets with dietary
concerns shall notify the CO prior to the FTX to ensure appropriate
arrangements can be made. We can accommodate preparation for MREs (Meals Ready
to Eat) or simple meals prepared over a camp stove.
Backpack/ Kit Bag
Access to our bivouac site may
require a short hike from the bus drop off point. It is best to use a large
camping backpack or kit bag with shoulder straps for packing. Suitcases are unsuitable for the FTX.
*Any illegal items found on personnel will be
confiscated and the Military Police will be notified immediately.
