Gliding This Weekend

This is a reminder that this weekend is our Fall Gliding day. our first gliding day of the training year.

Timings
0730 to 1630 (7:30 AM to 4:30 PM) on Sunday, 19 October 2014

Cadets are to arrive at Minto Armoury by 0730 (7:30 AM) for attendance etc.
The bus will depart Minto Armoury no later than (NLT) 0800 (8:00 AM) - sooner if possible (all known cadet attendees are present) and will return to Minto Armoury as close to 1630 (4:30 PM) as possible.

Who Should Attend
All cadets are welcome to attend all gliding days. Gliding day participants are choosen for flights by a priority order, based on, primarily, their past participation in gliding/cadets. Weather and time permitting, the "plan" is to get everyone who attends up for at least one flight. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. Sometimes there are simply too many attendees, even more often the weather just does not cooperate. On the flip side, I have seen times where all attendees were able to get up for two full flights (or more) in a single day. Additionally, there are often opportunities for cadets to participate in small powered flights in addition to the glider flights. These extra opportunities to experience flying are not available on every Gliding Day due to a wide variety of restrictions.

Priority
Fall - 2nd & 4th Year Cadets (then some 5+)
Spring - 1st & 3rd Year Cadets (then some 5+)

While all cadets are welcome to attend all gliding days, the priority for the Fall Gliding Day is to get glider flights for the Second Years, especially those who have never been gliding before (they missed their flight last year). The next level of priority is the Fourth Years, organized by those who have been up the least. Time and weather permitting, some Fifth Years will go next followed by any other attendees, organized by the number of glider flights they've had.

Food / Meals
Cadets shall bring a water bottle (which should be filled before getting on the bus)
Cadets are to eat breakfast before they arrive at Minto Armoury.
Cadets will be fed Lunch mid-day while Gliding at Gimli but will not be fed Dinner
Cadets may bring drinks/snack(s) along if they wish. Please follow the same food guidelines as if the snacks were to be consumed at a public school.

Misc
Gliding is a poor spectator sport. There are long periods of waiting for all too short flights in the glider. Therefore, there are activities, sports and (aviation) classes being organized to take advantage of the cadets "spare time" and to occupy much of the inevitable down time (waiting time) but cadets are encouraged to bring a book, some homework, etc. to occupy some of their down time.
Please remember that long periods of waiting can result in misplaced or unattended items, so cadets are strongly encouraged not to bring electronic devices (tablets, smartphones, gaming devices etc.) which can easily get lost. Any such items brought by the cadets are the cadets responsibility, and may very well be confiscated for the day, should they become disruptions to the classes, group activities, and/or individuals.

Please conatact us if you have any further questions.
The Squadron cell phone will be manned.
