RCSU Northwest Cadets

Participation in Remembrance Day and/or ceremonial activities may continue in accordance with the local unit training schedule.

No Cadet or JCR should be asked to participate in any activity if they, the leadership, or their parents are uncomfortable or feel unsafe. Effective communication with our cadets, JCRs and their parents must ensure any concerns are addressed appropriately, at the proper level and in a timely manner.

Tag days and poppy sales are an important part of CCO activities; particularly this time or year; and all the more-so given the events of last week. RCSU(NW) direction is that these are supervised and officially sanctioned activities, conducted in uniform, and are thus authorized to proceed.

CCO local leadership and partners are to exercise due diligence and the following further direction is provided for RCSU(NW) activities:
• Conduct a site assessment prior to organizing Tag Days and poppy sales:
• Preferably sales indoors (ie. in malls) or proximity of store fronts protected from direct vehicle access;
• Do not authorize “street corner” sites;
• Liaise with CCO partners and advise local authorities regarding intentions and timings;
• All cadets are to meet at LHQ and under supervision be driven to the activity site;
• Uniform protocol as per Chief of Reserves and Cadets direction (provided above);
• Adult supervision at all times (CIC; League Representatives, Legion member etc..);
• Ensure the cadets work in pairs at all times.
• Remain vigilant.

To emphasize, neither cadets nor uniformed adults will be asked to participate should they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Safety, security and welfare of our cadets and their leaders remain first and foremost.

Do not hesitate to seek clarification and guidance from the chain of command. We will continue to communicate actively with Cadets and their parents to ensure any questions or concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Let leadership and common sense prevail.
