Effective Speaking on Sunday from 1-3 (1300-1500) at Minto
Effective Speaking is open to all interested cadets
regardless of level. While many cadets participate simply for the experience, most decide to compete. Competitions are held each year at the local
(squadron), Provincial, and National levels. Individual squadron competitions are normally held
in January. The squadron’s top speaker (or two if justified) is selected to represent 220 Squadron at
the Provincial competition in February. The winner of the Provincial
competition (and a guardian) travel to represent Manitoba at the National
Competition in May/June. This year, the travel will be simple because Manitoba is hosting the National
Effective Speaking Competition in conjunction with the National Air Cadet League General Meeting here
in Winnipeg in June 2017.
Interested cadets should bring a paper and pencil/pen, as well as already have a good idea of which topic they plan to use for their prepared speech.
Topics For The National Effective Speaking Competition 2017
Here are this year’s topics:
• The 150th
Anniversary of Canada’s Confederation• Why the Air Cadet Program is important to Canada
• Canada’s changing role as a peace-keeper
• Drones – progress or threat?
• Environmental stewardship of Canada’s waters.
• Women in Aero-space
• How do you balance your Cadet career with the rest of your life?
• How did Vimy Ridge contribute to Canada’s recognition as a nation?
Are there any options for holding Effective Speaking during the week to avoid conflicts for those Cadets that play hockey/soccer etc.?
